About Marrakesh

Home to palaces, gardens and mosques, Marrakesh is a former imperial city in western Morocco, and one of the most unique places in the world. The medina, a densely packed walled medieval city dating to the Berber Empire, is rich in colourful alleys where thriving souks (marketplaces) sell traditional textiles, pottery and jewelry.

A symbol of the city is the Moorish minaret of 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque. The mosque is ornamented with curved windows, a band of ceramic inlay, pointed merlons and decorative arches. With a large plaza with gardens makes for the best afternoon trip.

Explore the Ourika River valley, about 30 kilometres south of Marrakesh. The valley offers many sights including waterfalls like the famous Setti Fatma Waterfalls, where you can climb to the top for some beautiful views. Another popular activity is the crossing of a Berber Bridge. The valley contains a number of rope bridges crossing the fast flowing river and makes for that perfect photo opportunity while you discover the inner Indiana Jones in you!
