About Belize

Belize lies in between the Central American jungles and the Caribbean Sea. It may be small country, however it offers plenty of adventure and culture. Belize City is the country capitol and separated into north and south sides by the Haulover Creek, which opens into the Caribbean Sea. The manually operated 1920s Swing Bridge links the two sides. While the Museum of Belize traces the country’s history, including Mayan artefacts, the Image Factory gallery shows local contemporary art. Both museums are a must when in town.

Outside the city a network of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries offer a safe haven for wildlife. Here, if you are lucky, you can spot the national animal of Belize, the Baird's tapir. With over 570 species of birds the country is a wonderland for bird watching. Even the colourful keel-billed toucan, the national bird of Belize, occasionally makes an appearance for the joy of the spectators.

Home to one of the world's most mysterious civilisations, the Maya, Belize offers some of the most captivating archaeological sites. The Cayo District and Toledo's Deep South are dotted with Mayan ruins, dating back to AD 250–1000. Gigantic stone steps lead to the tops of ancient temples, offering breathtaking views of the jungle.

Belize offers the perfect tropical getaway. The Barrier Reef is the second largest in the world, after Australia's, and offers hundreds of types of coral and species of tropical fish. A scuba diving paradise and snorkelers haven, the translucent seas offer a magical experience like no other. The world-renowned Blue Hole is a must when visiting. You can spend days kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding or just swimming while the peaceful island living will forge unforgettable memories.
