Niagara Falls - Canada

Niagara: From the falls to the lake.

Straddling the Canadian-United States International Border, Niagara Falls attracts some 12 Million tourists to her majestic awesome beauty each year.

Niagara Falls more specifically, is the name of three waterfalls - the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls.  Each of these waterfalls capture the imagination and boggle the mind with their intensity.  Niagara Falls are the biggest waterfalls in the world by the volume of water that thunders over a 50 metre drop.  It has been the sight of daredevils who have attempted to go over the falls via kayak, barrels, jet ski and tight rope.

Start exploring and you’ll soon realise the bone-rattling power and mist-cloaked majesty of the Horseshoe Falls are only the backdrop to this city of surprises.  Venture on, and discover epic entertainment and casino excitement, wild waterparks, big-brand outlet shopping, and perfectly manicured gardens and parks.  When you feel yourself drawn back to the exhilaration of the Falls, don your poncho and head to the heart of the wonder, aboard a Hornblower Niagara Cruise.

Niagara Falls is a city that immerses you in the spectacular and the surprising.  When you start to think you’ve see it all, turn around.  You might just catch a rainbow, and before you know it, you’ll be back for one more look and perhaps lucky to see the waterfalls lit up at night.

Nestled on the shore of Lake Ontario is one of Canada’s prettiest towns, Niagara-on-the-Lake.  Victorian-era charm and picturesque scenery reign supreme in this irresistible town.  There’s something about this town that makes you want to linger.  For generations, locals have called it the “Niagara-on-the-Lake Effect”, and although it’s hard to describe, you’ll feel it when you first set foot onto its historic streets.

The Heritage District in Niagara-on-the-Lake is made for walking, with its boutique shops, cast-iron planters bursting with flowers, and horse-drawn carriages transporting riders to another time and place.  Beyond the town, the pristine countryside spreads out below the Escarpment, dotted with vineyards – their sun-drenched rows of grapes serving as enticing invitations to some of Canada’s best wineries.

Step straight from the genteel Victorian town of Niagara-on-the-Lake into the War of 1812 at Fort George, a military post that defended Upper Canada against American attacks.  The site tour of Fort George is a glimpse into the social history of a garrison that was built to protect supply route. Soldiers in redcoats fire muskets, clouding the air with black powder smoke.  Fifers’ and Drummers’ tunes drift past blockhouses, a historic powder magazine and cannons on the lookout.

Niagara is a major draw card to the region with its mesmerising waterfalls and picturesque Canadian township.
